The seagrass map displays data from multiple sources, providing the most accurate and current information for this region to date. See Supplemental information for more details regarding specific sources used. Seagrass is summarized to give area calculations by country. For detailed polygon and habitat information, see the Seagrass Extent layer.
The reef subregions were created by expert opinion (Phil Kramer, Patricia Kramer, and John Knowles) using information on the orientation of reefs around each island, the benthic habitat, and ocean depth. The 200m contour was extracted from the 2014 GEBCO bathymetric data. From there contiguous shelf sections around each island was divided into subregions based on the above criteria/reef location. For the CMBP countries, the subregions were taken from the NOAA shelf unit layer.
